Dr Jesper Verhoef was a researcher-in-residence at the KB in 2023.

In his project 'Mapping the Dutch Queer Web Sphere', he explored the question: what does the Dutch queer web sphere look like and how has it changed over time?

The KB’s web collection remains underused, even though archived websites offer a unique look into cultural heritage. The LGBT+ community, like other marginalized groups, has depended largely on the web to record its history and culture. Jesper Verhoef’s project focused on making this online history more visible and usable, by mapping LGBT+, or queer, website networks over time.

His first blogpost details the process of harvesting queer websites to prepare the dataset. The second blogpost goes into the analysis of the collected data, opening the door for interesting and important future research.
