His project ‘“Why girls smile and boys don’t cry”: Exploring Stereotypes in Text and Image' explored the question: How have gender stereotypes changed over the course of the last two centuries?

Project

Kaspar Beelen explored the topic of gender bias in Dutch newspapers of the 19th and 20th century. His blogpost introduces this topic, the issue of bias in AI, and the concept of word embeddings. This work resulted in the word embedding playground, a repository with tools for training and finetuning word embedding models on a corpus of Dutch newspapers.
