Professor Marc van Oostendorp (born 1967) is a senior researcher at the Meertens Institute. He is a prolific writer on language, publishing articles, academic and non-specialist books, columns in magazines and newspapers and blogs such as Neerlandistiek.
In 1996 his dissertation was awarded the AVT/Anéla Dissertatieprijs, presented by the Society for General Linguistics and the Association for Applied Linguistics for the best Dutch dissertation in linguistics from the previous year. His work for non-specialist readers won him an oeuvre prize from the Netherlands Graduate School of Linguistics (LOT) in 2005 and in 2016, van Oostendorp was appointed as an honorary member of the Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde.
