Gauri Bhagwat is a Master's student in Rare Book and Digital Humanities from Université Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France. Under the supervision of Dr. Steven Claeyssens, she has undertaken the internship project to assess Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) solutions for European early modern typefaces.
Over the period of four months (February-May 2024), Gauri’s focus is on exploring solutions to implement Text Recognition software/application on Dutch Historical Printed Material in Roman, Gothic, and Civilité typefaces. Her goal for this project is to provide implementable scenarios for KB's digitization workflow overall achieving high-quality OCR results by experimenting with different tools to bring the best transcriptions possible. Gauri is also part of the Digital Scholarship Team and the KB Summerschool Team.
A few words from Gauri:
“I'm passionate about books, tech, and the magic that happens when they come together. Formerly a librarian in India, I hold a Master's degree in Library and Information Science. While I have a knack for learning new technologies through hands-on use, I'll admit that I'm not very good when it comes to learning languages. So I am attempting to gracefully navigate the complexities of Dutch, often resulting in what I call 'my mental language acrobatics.' But I am working my way through it and will soon speak Dutch more smoothly!
I warmly invite anyone eager to share insights, collaborate, discuss the field, or simply chat about books to reach out. You can find me in the Research department. I am more than happy to meet and exchange thoughts and have a good conversation over tea or coffee.
I'm looking forward to connecting with all of you in this vibrant KB community and developing a vibrant lifelong connection.”
